I’m not really sure how I stumbled upon this recipe – maybe while pinning or perhaps while digging through old recipes in Jessica’s archive of awesome recipes on her blog How Sweet It Is. either way, I’m certainly glad that I found it and decided to go for it. it’s not something I would normally try – I don’t like Snickers bars. but my boyfriend, brandon, does, so I thought I’d make them for him. he loved them and so did everyone else who tried them. this is perfect for impressing friends or coworkers at a small gathering (makes a 13×9 pan). it’s also surprisingly easy, just a little time-consuming.

HOMEMADE SNICKERS BARS

Bottom Chocolate Layer Ingredients:
– 1 1/4 c milk chocolate chips
– 1/4 c creamy peanut butter

Bottom Chocolate Layer Directions:
1. Thoroughly spray the bottom and sides of a 13×9″ pan (disposable aluminum works best because you can break it off of the finished bar).
2. Using your microwave, melt the chocolate chips and peanut butter in a microwave-safe bowl until smooth and stir gently until combined.
3. Spread evenly into the bottom of the pan. Allow to completely cool before adding the next layer.

Nougat Layer Ingredients:
– 1/4 c unsalted butter
– 1 c granulated sugar (I prefer cane sugar)
– 1/4 c evaporated low-fat or non-fat milk
– 1 1/2 c marshmallow fluff
– 1/4 c creamy peanut butter
– 1 1/2 c salted peanuts, coarsely chopped (or almonds)
– 1 t pure vanilla extract

Nougat Layer Directions:1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat.
2. Add sugar and evaporated milk and stir until the sugar has been dissolved into the mixture. Bring to a boil. Let cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Remove from heat. Add in the marshmallow fluff, peanut butter, and vanilla. Stir until smooth.
4. Fold in the peanuts or almonds, then pour over the bottom chocolate layer. Allow to cool completely before adding the next layer.

Caramel Layer Ingredients:
– 1 14-oz. bag of caramels (or slightly more…)
– 1/4 c heavy whipping cream

Caramel Layer Directions:
1. Combine the ingredients in a saucepan over low heat. Let the caramel piece melt, stirring occasionally. After about ten minutes, they should stir smooth.
2. Pour the caramel over the nougat layer. Allow to cool completely before adding the next layer.

Top Chocolate Layer Ingredients:
– 1 1/4 c milk chocolate chips
– 1/4 c creamy peanut butter

Top Chocolate Layer Directions:
1. Again, using your microwave, melt the chocolate chips and peanut butter in a microwave-safe bowl until smooth and stir gently until combined.
2. Spread evenly onto the caramel layer.
3. Allow to cool in the fridge at least an hour before cutting into. Recommend storing in the fridge – caramel will become soft at room temperature.
